Working Art Studios

Where the Magic Happens!

We are now accepting expressions of interest for studio space.

Are you an artist or artisan who is looking for studio space?
100 Braid St Studios & Gallery is a unique and innovative creative space situated in a 5,600 square foot former winery warehouse. We provide not only a place to work but a community of artists that support and inspire each other.

Although the studio does not represent artists in the traditional sense and you are free and encouraged to pursue outside opportunities to further your career, your work will be exposed to thousands of people who come to the studio for events each year. Your work will be promoted on our social media channels, at First Saturday Open Studios and during several promoted art events each year such as the New Westminster Cultural Crawl & our Winter Market; opportunities for 100 Braid St Studios group shows and exhibitions are available and encouraged. You’ll also receive discounts on ticket prices for the studios professional development series, Artovations and fine art classes.

The studio is set up so that the majority of working studio spaces are separate yet visible (through windows) from the workshop/gallery/public space and each one has either premium direct window light or indirect light. The studios are locked off and secure from the general public areas but not locked off from other artists. This provides opportunities for the sharing of ideas, a sense of community and the opportunity to work together cooperatively. A washing area with an industrial sink in one bathroom is provided, a second bathroom is handicapped accessible and our kitchen provides simple amenities such as a fridge and microwave.

100 Braid St is in a commercially zoned area and is suitable for light industrial production. We are located one minute off of Highway #1 and across the street from the Braid St Skytrain Station.

Working studio spaces are priced depending on the light & location and range between $280-$450 a month. Rental amount includes heat and hydro but does not include GST/PST.

Artists have 24/7 access except for 2-3 days (generally Saturdays) per month. As the workshop/gallery space may be rented out for a private event we may ask artists to refrain from coming into the studio from 2pm to midnight; there will be someone on the premises overseeing the event. Although artists are asked not to come to the studio during these events the trade-off is that your art is exposed to a large number of people-we have sold art during these events and/or commissions have resulted from this exposure.

Studio is closed to the public on Sundays and Mondays and these are guaranteed quiet working days. More information on the studios workshop and open to the public times are available.

Artist potluck socials are held at least twice a year to discuss ideas and potential upcoming joint projects. We are looking for individuals who are looking for community, who have been practicing in their artistic field for some time, who are recognized as such by his or her peers, who have some history of public presentation, who have the financial means to commit to a year’s lease and to producing art within the space. Studio space is not available on a first come first serve basis but on diversity of art & craft and fit onto the community.
