Trevor Brett

Artist Statement

The intersection of visual art and architectural representation is an area of investigation in my art practice. My finished work is primarily with oil paint on canvas, but my artistic investigations usually begin with pencil drawings, graph paper and coloured pencils.

I like to use a grid as a compositional device, developing a simplified geometric language to dissect and reassemble the architecture of the public buildings that are my subject matter.

I employ an abstracted use of colour that is both playful and considered. In more recent works I’m exploring contrasting scales of the pictorial elements to create dynamic compositions.

Trevor Brett is a visual artist based in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. Being drawn to visual culture from a young age he completed courses in art, graphic art, and drafting. This led to a year studying in London, U.K. on a unique Foundation Course where art, craft, and architecture merged.

Following this he completed a Diploma In Fine Arts from Langara College and a BFA in Visual Art from Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
