Egg Tempera Artist
Alina Smolyansky is a full-time egg tempera artist and educator based in Vancouver, BC. She has being painting in egg tempera for over eleven years and teaching for over six years. Traditional egg tempera** appeals to her for its simplicity, purity of colours and historic significance.
Alina’s inspiration stems from various spiritual traditions, illuminated manuscripts and nature. She holds a BA in Professional Communication from Royal Roads University, as well as diplomas in Architecture and Writing.
Her works are in private and public collections in North America and Overseas. Yet, the last three years marked Alina’s turn from her own art to teaching art where she found her passion and a more profound way to give. She is happy to share her love for egg tempera with others.
** Egg tempera is a little known, ancient painting medium. It is inexpensive, eco-friendly and versatile and is made from pure powdered pigments, mixed in a raw egg emulsion. Egg tempera dries quickly and typically is applied in multiple thin layers, producing saturated vibrant colours.
The last three years marked my turn from my own art to teaching art where I found my passion and a more profound way to give. This is my constantly evolving art project.
