Victoria Klassen

I paint because I love to interpret ideas and images into something new. I strive to re-imagine shapes and forms found in landscape and nature and transform them into new compositions. Having lived my life on the West Coast I am inspired by the blues and greens, and of course, the mist and rain, in the environment around me. When I paint abstracts I try to convey a feeling of landscape rather than a realistic representation of the landscape. I seek to visually describe a sense of place using shape, colour and contrast. Working abstractly challenges my mind to paint what I don’t see and to work intuitively by building up layers and working through challenges. It is very much process-oriented in that design problems are worked through and resolved in the finished piece.
