Welcome @pjpatten to The Loft Studios and Gallery.
One of the most beautiful things about the Braid St Community is the diversity of our artists and creatives. PJ was with us at our former location for a number of years as a resident artist so we are delighted he is back!

PJ is multitalented but likely best know for his graphic novel Tower 25. It explores “the intersections between mental health and graphic arts bringing his own lives experience of homelessness and addiction to the page”. Available thru @cloudscapecomics

PJ lives in New West and has recently begun a residency with @douglascollege He works with @purposesocietyofficial and @ugmvancouver

Although he finished another residency connected to his Japanese heritage and the internment camps when Canadian Japanese citizens where stripped of their homes and business and detained, he says he has more to explore on this topic.

Pj is also a tattoo artist and poet.

We are so thrilled to welcome ALICE CLAIR @aliceclair to Braid St.
Alice is best known for her collages created from hand-painted tissue paper. She is greatly influenced by her grandfathers butterfly collection and as a new mother, Alice aspires to spark childhood memories in the viewer. From a sprinkle doughnut to a view of local mountains and ocean, her own childhood weaves its way prominently through her work, igniting the five senses. She continues to experiment with a range of mediums and dimensions, inspired by her work as a children’s educator and the young’s excitement to play and explore.check out the photos of her work and public art projects and murals.

Alice is a graduate of the IDEA Program at Capilano University and the Fine Arts program at Langara College.

She lives with her husband and two children in New Westminster,
outside of Vancouver, Canada.

You’ll find her in Studio #2 in our 321 6th Loft Atelier!

This month's theme: Interpreting Nature

"Artists of all disciplines have a long and fascinating history with nature and the environment in which they create. For our event this May, I invite our group to reflect on how nature/ environment influence our artistic practise. The Icelandic–Danish sculptor and installation artist Olafur Eliasson reflects, "Nature present(s) a great toolbox which would offer a lot of spatial experiments, through which we could investigate each other." The British composer Michael Finnissy describes the complexity and density of his enormous works to be a representation of nature's intricacies. What role does nature have in your work- a canvas from which expression is derived? a vital force which distorts and breathes life into your work? a model which is the basis for representation or experimentation?"

Premium 3rd floor Loft art studios in 2 beautiful spaces on 6th St in Mid-Town New Westminster. Individual Studio spaces have large windows and natural light. Beautiful common areas and meeting space allow socialization between artists and each location has a Cardinal Bott Vanderhill Art Library. Spaces in building #1 are all individual and lockable. In #2 building we offer more shared open studio spaces with low walls.
