Egg tempera is a little known, ancient painting medium. It is inexpensive, eco-friendly and versatile and is made from pure powdered pigments, mixed in a raw egg emulsion. Egg tempera dries quickly and typically is applied in multiple thin layers, producing saturated vibrant colours.
You will discover the basic secrets of the ancient technique of egg tempera painting and will receive personal instruction and demonstration (the group is small, maximum 6 participants) for each stage of painting:
How to mix egg yolk emulsion
How to apply paint in the “puddle” and brushstroke techniques
How to apply layers and paint details.
At the end of the course you will take home a completed painting of “The Tree of Life,” inspired by illuminated manuscripts and oriental art, but more importantly, this introductory course will help you appreciate the ancient technique of egg tempera painting.
