Day Camps during Teachers Strike Available at 100 Braid St

To help out families during the BC Teachers Federation job action, 100 Braid St Studios & Gallery is providing two Arts & Crafts day camps and an after school camp during the week of September 2 and beyond.

For children 5 to 10 years old, this camp is designed to bring out your child’s inner artist and to help them learn about some of the world’s greatest artists and influencers in art history.  Each day, children will participate in a variety of mixed media activities such as painting, drawing, crafts, paper mache sculpture and a variety of other projects.  For example, children will learn abuot artists Jackson Pollock and be able to create a masterpiece in our Splatter Room.  We will include storytelling and physical activity related to art in our large studio each day.  Class size is limited to 32 and each session will be lead by a professional artist or instructor.  One or Two class assistants (who may also be professional artists) will be available.  All materials included.   More classes/days/weeks will be added if the strike continues.

At the end of the strike or each month the strike continues the children’s art will be displayed in a Gallery Showing.

Aboriginal Arts & Crafts Day Camp – Strike coverage
aboriginal day campFor children 8-12 this is an amazing opportunity to learn about the arts and culture of Canada’s First Nations.  The focus for the first several weeks will be on the history and arts of the Metis people.  Each day will include storyteling, music and dance and will introduce children to a variety of projects such as finger weaving, embroidery, and beading.  At least one day will feature making bannock.  Each day will be led by an instructor who is either a professional artist or traditional artisan.  If the strike continues for more than two weeks the program will expand to include other First Nations and Inuit arts and crafts.  All materials included. Class size is limited to 10.  More classes/days/weeks will be added if the strike continues.
At the end of the strike or each month the strike continues the children’s art will be displayed in a Gallery Showing.

This “after school” program is a smaller class we are running during job action is for children ages 5-12 years.  This program will focus on mixed media arts & crafts as related to the Fall and seasons. Each session will be lead by one or two professional artists or instructors.  All materials included.
At the end of the strike or each month the strike continues the children’s art will be displayed in a Gallery Showing.

September 2-5
